How does God talk to us?

Welcome to the Daily Bible Chapter. My name is James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I attempt to read the Bible with fresh eyes, as if I don't know anything about it, and without consulting experts on what it "really" means.. Let's see where this takes us!

Joshua 1

I'm reading Young's Literal Translation (YLT) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV).

The LORD is boosting Joshua's confidence: "Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you," and "No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you."

Yet, "Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go."

In other words, if you do not doubt or waver, you will succeed.

But I have a question. In Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, The LORD seemed to speak to Moses through some sort of communication from the "pillar of cloud" to the ears or mind of Moses.

Did Joshua inherit this special communication?

Or does The LORD speak to Joshua through the mind alone, capital M (universal, divine) "Mind" to individual "mind?"

If so, perhaps that is how any of us hears the divine voice. God is a presence within us.
