Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
I am entitled to miracles. (ACIM, W-77)
Today's lesson goes on to say:
³Remind yourself also that miracles are never taken from one and given to another, and that in asking for your rights, you are upholding the rights of everyone. ⁴Miracles do not obey the laws of this world. ⁵They merely follow from the laws of God. (ACIM, W-77.4:3-5)
Coincidentally, yesterday I was listening to Gaylon McDowell's April 6, 2022 episode of Truth Transforms (available wherever you get podcasts). McDowell says,
If anyone in human history was able to be healed from a life-threatening disease, if anyone has ever been healed through prayer, through meditation or some spiritual practice, it's potentially possible for every human being. If anyone has ever prayed for money, provision, and received unexpected money, money you didn't work for an earn, if anyone has ever done it, it's possible for every human being. If anyone has ever created a successful business from an idea by living it in their consciousness so strongly that it became a reality, that drew the right resources and right people and right plan unto them, if anybody has ever done it, then it's possible for everyone.
Earlier in the same podcast, McDowell draws a distinction between our spiritual wholeness, which is always present, and our consciousness, i.e., consciousness of what is possible. I might suggest that when one's consciousness is less than one's spiritual wholeness, it is the ego that fills the void and tells us what is impossible. It is the ego that tells us we're not entitled to miracles, that we have to do everything on our own efforts. It is the ego that has us clinging to the human intellect instead of receiving what God offers.
I'm not sure of the direction of the Course, whether it offers the same promises of health and prosperity, but I can understand a miracle as a sudden change that can't be explained by the methods of the human intellect or science. And this can happen to anyone at any time.
