As announced, I'll be launching two newsletters this Friday, Daily Miracles and Daily Bible Chapter.
Here is the second sneak peek for Daily Miracles. These are brief excerpts of my commentaries.
Lesson 7
Memory and only memory makes the connection between what we see and how we feel about it. Because thoughts come from feelings, memory seems to be a source of thought. Perhaps the only source of thought. In any case, the thing-as-it-is isn't necessarily the same as the thing-as-it-was according to one's memory.
Perhaps "mindfulness" is awareness that the present thing is not the past thing, and that an unpleasant memory about the past thing is irrelevant to the present moment.
Lesson 8
What is the present but the sum total of previous experience? That past - our memories - frame our desires. A desire, and a step toward its fulfillment in the "future," might be all that the present moment contains.
When you're at the top of a mountain, do you not remember the climb? Are you not happy or proud that you completed the climb? Is thinking about the climb really "not thinking at all?"
Lesson 9
I'm somewhat aware that, from a scientific point of view, our eyeballs aren't really seeing. There's a process in which our brains form the images. I'm not sure how this really squares with vision tests or the apparent need for prescription lenses for some to be able to read or drive safely. Do the lines of letters in the optometrist's office not exist as I see them?
Lesson 10
In other words, your thoughts about the world, what you "think" the world is telling you - for instance, about what you must do, ought to do, and not allowed to do - are meaningless. You are therefore released from them. You don't have to dwell in those thoughts, and you certainly don't have to conform to them.
