My style of political incorrectness: ten examples

Political Correctness on the Left is well-known: don't say anything that is or could be interpreted as insensitive or offensive to members of certain groups. The Political Correctness of the Right has a lot to do with proper etiquette surrounding our hymns and oaths to the American Flag.

My political incorrectness, however, is trans-partisan. Some examples.

1. If a nation has a recent and persistent record of meddling in foreign elections, aiding coup d' etats, and toppling regimes through bombings and invasions, then it kind of deserves to see its own elections compromised by foregin intervention. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

2. It doesn't matter if they're Repubican or Democrat, "imperialist" is the proper word to describe those who claim America has the right (or responsibility) to meddle overseas. I don't see how imperialism is any better than racism or any other form of bigotry.

3. No American soldier died fighting to preserve democracy. I don't see any evidence.

4. In World War II, the troops fought for "freedom" in that they liberated Paris and Rome from the fascists. For most Americans, the rest of the Eurasian land mass mass might as well not exist until they're told by the imperialists that some country is a "threat."

5. Imagine a movie was made 40 years ago that accurately portrayed today's America. As soon as the fascist-sounding "Homeland Security" was mentioned, or a drone strike of a wedding in Yemen was depicted, the 1980 audience would know without a doubt that the government is the Bad Guy in this movie, and that they're watching dystopian science fiction.

6. Jerry Sandusky is probably innocent, Steve McNair's murder (a double homicide) was never seriously investigated, and justice can't be expected from the institutions that ostensibly provide it.

7. Democrats are the sort of people who give themselves permission to criticize Israel over Palestine, but assume that any non-Democrat who criticizes Israel must be an anti-Semite. Republicans tend to think any criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic AND anti-Christian AND anti-American. I don't see how that conflict is any more of my business than any other ongoing confict in the world.

8. Many Christians who don't support Trump are criticizing Christians who do, claiming that Trump's behavior, rhetoric, and policies are not in accord with the moral teachings of Jesus. They aren't wrong, but wow their own pre-Trump track record of political engagement has hardly been any better. Before Trump, apparently, Christians could have "civil" conversations and conclude that "reasonable people can disagree" about which foreign populations should be bombed and who among their neighbors should go to prison.

9. If we view cultures that stone adulteresses as primitive and misogynistic, what am I to make of one that jails prostitutes?

10. It's funny how we look back with regret that our unenlightened ancestors persecuted witchcraft, but then imprison those who employ certain healing remedies without a license. It's funny how we claim "freedom of religion" but ban substances that open new gateways in consciousness.

What's more politically-incorrect than anything is to have no faith in the system at all.
