An Agent Smith World

On both sides, it was “We need more authority. We need more controls over us.” They just differed in the details. Either way, Agent Smith wins. 

Where both sides could agree is that these shootings are tragedies. They are shocking and saddening. We mourn for the victims and their families. It’s in our nature to feel this way when others suffer. That’s why we often look for way to help when others suffer from natural disasters. 

But our compassion has limits. For instance, when it comes to war and foreign policy, we set the suffering of other people aside. Agent Smith takes over. We start thinking in cliches.
