Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
Lesson 148
My mind holds only what I think with God.
(135) If I defend myself I am attacked.
(136) Sickness is a defense against the truth.
Dr. Seuss's The Sneetches and Other Stories contains the tale "What Was I Scared Of?" It's the story of a person's repeated encounters with a walking pair of "pale green pants with no one inside them."
That would be quite an unusual thing to face. Indeed, I doubt anyone has encountered anything so strange. And when we encounter the unknown, we feel fear.
Well, guess what? There was nothing to fear. No reason to run away from the green pants, no reason to scream for help when facing them.
No reason to defend oneself, because there was no threat.
Fear and worry can cause us to lash out in "self-defense" or to tense up and become sick.
But there's nothing to be afraid of.
