Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
Lesson 154
I am among the ministers of God.
I think we are always "ministers of God," in that we are always thinking, feeling, saying, and doing what we believe, and whatever we believe is in fact our God. We're always "representing" our personal beliefs.
And the "message" we send isn't always verbal. Our smiles and courtesies toward strangers, such as holding a door open, convey a message to them. So does our rude behavior.
I've been in situations where I handed out tracts and leaflets, not because I believed in what they said, but because I felt obligated as a member of a group that distributed them, or because I wanted to please others. After I "helped," my own words and deeds didn't always reflect the ideas in the literature I distributed.
But I don't have to do any of that. I am free. Everything I do reflects my beliefs, and the entirety of my beliefs is my God. Being a messenger or minister to that God is the only thing I'm ever really doing. If my beliefs and understanding expand, then my words and actions will naturally reflect that expansion.
To be a minister of God, of your beliefs, is as natural to you as breathing air or drinking water.
