2022 FBS Rankings, Week 2

 

As of September 14, 2022, every FBS team has played at least two games this season.

So… time to rank 'em!

I will rank them this season in a much different way than I have in previous seasons. This will be an adjusted "margins of victories - minus margins of defeats" formula. It also controls for runaway scores and FCS (lower-division) opponents. 

This will not be my opinion of the "best teams" or of the "most deserving" teams for the College Football Playoff. But after five or six weeks or so, I will start comparing my ranking with the AP and Coaches polls, and when the time comes, with the Playoff Selection Committee rankings.

My formula is based on a points system, and there are only so many points to be distributed just 2-3 games into the season. Therefore, I'm not ranking teams with the same number of points. Instead, I'm listing them in alphabetical order.

With the addition of James Madison, there are now 131 teams in the FBS. Here is my list:
