Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
LESSON 94
I am as God created me. (ACIM, W-94)
We are to remind ourselves hourly:
²I am as God created me.
³I am His Son eternally. (ACIM, W-94.5:2-3)
I've long appreciated this quote from football coach Bill Parcells:
"You are what your record says you are."
It was said in the context of a team's won-loss record and league standings. The team is not its potential, the team is not its talent, the team is not a victim of injuries and bad officiating.
It might be said, if you are a football coach, "You are a losing coach" or "You are a winning coach" or "You are a championship-winning coach."
The statement is fine in narrowly-defined, results-oriented, goal driven activities.
Too often, however, I might judge myself or others by my "record" in parts of life where no records are kept. "I must have x income by age y or I'm a failure." "I must lose x amount of weight by date y or I am undisciplined and lazy." And on and on.
We even tell ourselves and each other through memes and speeches, "It's not what you say, it's what you do." As if to say, "I am the sum total of my past actions."
But actually, the past is the past, and an eternal being cannot be "less than" anyone or a failure at anything.
