Do we see what is real?

Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

LESSON 84

Today's review lessons:

(67) Love created me like itself. (ACIM, W-84.1:1)

68) Love holds no grievances. (ACIM, W-84.3:1)

For me, the key phrases in this lesson are,

²I am in the likeness of my Creator. ³I cannot suffer, I cannot experience loss and I cannot die. ⁴I am not a body. (ACIM, W-84.1:2-4)

and

"⁴My Creator did not create this as I see it." (ACIM, W-84.2:4)

The body's eyes see a world different from what is. I mentioned the work of Donald Hoffman in Lesson 17. Hoffman believes we see only what we think helps us survive. In Lesson 45 I make the analogy that we feel like we're in a maze. We're therefore not seeing what's real, but rather the flaws and faults of other people whom we think are holding us back.

It is those very thoughts about other people, our grievances, that hold us back from experiencing love and the fullness of life.
