You don't have to do anything but follow

Welcome to the Daily Bible Chapter. My name is James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as we discover new insights and new perspectives from a very old book.

EXODUS 15 and 16

I'm reading Young's Literal Translation (YLT) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV).

Exodus 15

The song gives credit to The LORD for drowning the Egyptians, who metaphorically represent enslavement to the material world. The Israelites didn't do anything but follow the LORD, and the LORD pulled off miraculous things. This continues when the LORD provides them with sweet water where it had been better, then to 12 fountains of water.

Turning this inwardly, if you listen to and follow the LORD/God/Source/Higher Self within you, things work out in a seemingly miraculous way. You don't have to do anything. You don't have figure things out with your intellect, or force the issue. Just follow that inner guidance.

Exodus 16

The YLT has Jehovah saying "Lo, I am raining bread from the heavens" but the NRSV "I am going to rain bread from heaven for you."

In everyday speech of the English language, "the heavens" are synonymous with the sky, but who has a firm grasp of what "heaven" is or means?

Turning this story inward, it appears that the LORD/Higher Self will always find a way to meet your needs, even if you don't understand from where the supply comes or how. But also, you mustn't rely on your own efforts to get more than you need, or more than the next person, or more to save. We certainly don't need to hoard food.
