The Power Source

Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

Lesson 59's review:

(41) God goes with me wherever I go. (ACIM, W-59.1:1)

(42) God is my strength. ²Vision is His gift. (ACIM, W-59.2:1-2)

(43) God is my Source. ²I cannot see apart from Him. (ACIM, W-59.3:1-2)

(44) God is the light in which I see. (ACIM, W-59.4:1)

(45) God is the Mind with which I think. (ACIM, W-59.5:1)

I've heard it said elsewhere - it may have been Temple Hayes on her podcast - that God is like electricity, and you're the toaster. You don't really fulfill your purpose unless you're plugged in and turned on.

The toaster I have has a power cord that is built into the toaster; it's not detachable like the power adapter of a cell phone. Which means if the cord is damaged, the toaster itself is broken. It can't function as a toaster at all.

I wonder if a human body without the "power cord" is literally dead, a corpse. If you see a real live person, however, that cord is there, that connection to the Power Source, the electrical outlet, is possible. It's just a matter of connecting and turning the power switch on.

Maybe this is what the Course is teaching us: we can be perfectly functioning toasters, but we've never fulfilled our purpose because we haven't made that connection to the power source.
