Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
I am not the victim of the world I see. (ACIM, W-31)
This statement is probably necessary. As the lesson says, it's "introduction to your declaration of release". (ACIM, W-31.1:1)
I do wonder, however, if greater awareness of the role trauma plays in our health and well-being might make this lesson more difficult to accept for some people. Paralysis, or missing limbs, may be visible signs of inability to get back what was lost.
Also, suffering long-term physical, verbal, and emotional abuse, from childhood and after, may impact internal organ functioning, even if the abuse ended a long time ago. Stress creates physical ailments. One may agree with an affirmation like this, and repeat it often, without feeling the healing in a physical sense.
It does, however, remain true that, no matter what condition I’m in, I don’t have to see a cruel world, and therefore I don’t have to be the victim of a cruel world.
We see what we think about, and then we think about what we see. If we think differently, we’ll see differently.
