What a Preakness Stakes! As he did in the Kentucky Derby, Hard Spun again set a fast pace for the other horses. Curlin and Street Sense patiently waited near the back, then Curlin started gaining from the outside while Street Sense gracefully but mercilessly streaked through the crowd to take the lead. But I got the feeling down the stretch, as Curlin was gaining on Street Sense, that Curlin would catch him. And he did, by a nose.
Normally, I don't get excited for the Belmont Stakes if no horse has a chance for the Triple Crown. But I might tune in this time, because after seeing the Preakness, and especially after seeing the replay of the race from an aerial perspective focusing on Curlin, I think we have a real rivalry on our hands.
And who knows? Maybe if Hard Spun tones it down a little, he might have a chance at the Belmont, too.
