Publishing Alec Baldwin's private phone message to his daughter was more unethical than airing the rants of the Virginia Tech killer. Thankfully, I managed to avoid both.
I've never watched the show, but it seems to me there have been four American Idol winners: Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, and Sanjaya. This is one competition where "winning" isn't everything.
To have shows like Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace on a channel called Headline News defeats the very reason the channel was created. If you wanted to watch the news and had cable, you could do it any time of day. But when the anchors are replaced by pundits, it becomes just another crappy channel.
If abortion is really the only issue for pro-lifers, they would be willing to give up everything else in order to give the government the power to prevent most abortions: the Constitution, our liberties, our guns. A pro-life socialist dictatorship must be preferred to a pro-choice capitalist republic. This is what makes all "single issue" voting so dangerous.
Is an organization - the military - based entirely on obedience and hierarchy really capable of "defending" a country based on liberty and equality? The Army and the Navy, in their essence, violate the core principles on which a free society functions. No wonder many of the Founding generation viewed a standing army with suspicion.
