Divisive
By jailing people who don't hurt anybody, by going to war against non-threatening nations, by giving away taxpayer money to favored groups, and by imposing regulations that privilege some over others, government policy does nothing but create divisions among the people. But merely pointing this out is bad form. Mentioning that some people - those in government and their clients - are divisive, is itself divisive. In civil discourse, we must be concerned about the feelings of those who want more taxing, jailing, and killing. We must respect that they have good intentions, and only want the common good as they understand it. In other words, we are to have more compassion for the taxers, jailers, and killers, than for the taxed, jailed, and killed.
