Seeing peace

 Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time. 

I could see peace instead of this. (ACIM, W-34)

Because, "It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises. (ACIM, W-34.1:4)."

Throughout the day and in the 5-minute periods I was seeing "peace" in the non-visible world: soreness of joints, triggered thoughts, painful memories. I was also quicker to see peace when I saw certain names or news items pop up on social media or elsewhere. I chose to see peace instead of problems and conflict.

We imagine scenes by a mountain stream or in a forest as being "peaceful." It might be, to our eyes. But perhaps to the organisms who live there, there seems, to them, to be a lot of hustle and bustle. Perhaps more than what humans experience, as we're more likely to have plenty of food stored in the fridge and pantry while they live day-to-day.

If we see peace in nature, why not see the peace in the here and now of our own lives?
