April 1: When people lie

April 1: today in history (from Wikipedia)

1891 – "The Wrigley Company is founded in Chicago, Illinois." When people complain about stadiums being named for corporate sponsors, the comeback should be, "What about Wrigley Field?"

1939 – "Spanish Civil War: Generalísimo Francisco Franco of the Spanish State announces the end of the Spanish Civil War, when the last of the Republican forces surrender." A cousin who lived in Spain in the late 60's and then recently visited said you could scarcely tell Franco ever lived.

1949 – "The Government of Canada repeals Japanese Canadian internment after seven years." The internment was wrong and shameful in the first place, but didn't Canada know the war ended in 1945?

Notable quotes (from BrainyQuote unless otherwise sourced)

"People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election." - Otto von Bismarck (1 April 1815 – 30 July 1898)

"The story of the human race is the story of men and women selling themselves short." - Abraham Maslow (April 1, 1908 – June 8, 1970)

"I figured this was the easy stuff, and if we couldn't show up on time, looking right and acting right, we weren't going to be able to do anything else." - Bo Schembechler (April 1, 1929 – November 17, 2006) SOURCE

Song of the Day

Jeff Porcaro (April 1, 1954 – August 5, 1992), the most admired studio session drummer before ever, and a member of Toto, even has a blog entry for his drumming on this song:
