Power Corrupts

This is my latest at the Partial Observer. Excerpt:
Evil triumphs not when good men do nothing, but when through patriotic zeal they become convinced that normal ethical rules should only apply to other countries, and not their own. With power, we believe we can do anything to anybody and make it all come out right in the end. Power creates inequality between those who have it and those who don't; those who have it view everyone else as pawns.
Power corrupts not just politicians, I believe it can corrupt the citizenry of a superpower as well. Americans initially supported the War on Iraq because they believed America was entitled to do things other nations shouldn't be allowed to do, with God's special favor. Americans thus adopted for themselves the ethics of the slavemaster, the imperialist, the Nephalim; because we're superior, we get to do what we want.
