Fixing Social Security:

The Concord Coalition has a wonkish report on Social Security.

Suspicions confirmed: this is an eminently fixable problem. Despite the explosive demographics, "cutting" benefits so that they only increase with the cost of living will go a long way toward solving the problem. As will moderate, gradual increases in the age of eligibility.

Whether or not there should be Social Security, and especially Social Security taxes, is, of course, another matter. But Democrats should step up and propose these reform now, proving that they are saner and more sensible than the Republicans.
