The BCS

I heard Gary Danielson, ABC's best college football analyst, interviewed on the radio. He gave an excellent description/motto of the Bowl Championship Series:

"We're not happy until you're not happy!"

It does make one yearn for the old days. While 1991, 1994, and 1997 were frustrating, because there were two undefeated teams and no one knew which one was better, think of the matchups we could have had this year under, say 1990 rules:

Rose: USC v. Michigan
Orange: Oklahoma v. Virginia Tech
Sugar: Auburn v. California
Cotton: Texas v. Utah
Fiesta: Louisville v. Boise State (fortunately, this match-up is happening in the Liberty Bowl)

Five undefeated teams vs. the five next-best teams, all motivated to be a spoiler, and at least three with a shot at the national title themselves. And five must-watch games for the college football fan.
