March 10, 2014: Jimmy V and Yellow freakin' Ledbetter

March 10: today in history (from Wikipedia)

1629 – "Charles I of England dissolves Parliament, beginning the eleven-year period known as the Personal Rule." Worst. King. Ever.

1848 – "The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is ratified by the United States Senate, ending the Mexican–American War." This brought America's war record to 2-0-1. (War of 1812 being the tie.) The schedule strength diminished somewhat, but it was our first road win. You know, because wars are like college football.

1977 – "Rings of Uranus: Astronomers discover rings around Uranus." [Insert dumb tasteless joke here.]

Quote of the Day -- alright, speech of the day.

Jim Valvano (March 10, 1946 – April 28, 1993) would have been 68 today. If you haven't seen this, you should:

Song of the Day

Happy 51st to Jeff Ament, Pearl Jam's bass player who co-wrote my favorite from them:
