My Poor Google Skills

Jack Anderson was murdered.

Lee Smith was blamed by the authorities for the murder, although many people doubt that he did it, or don't believe he could have pulled it off all by himself. Smith himself denied it and said he was set up. What is beyond dispute is that Lee Smith was at least present when the murder occurred.

Years later, Chuck Harrison confessed to the murder, but then quickly recanted. Eyewitness and photographic evidence suggests that he was probably present when the murder occurred. What is beyond doubt is that Chuck Harrison was a professional hit-man.

By the way, Harrison's wife at the time of the murder, Diane, had the maiden name of Smith.

Does that raise an eyebrow? Maybe, maybe not.

Okay, I changed one of the names.

The last name of the alleged murderer was actually St. Pierre, and maiden name of the wife of the hit man who had confessed to the murder was also St. Pierre.

Now does that raise an eyebrow? If you were reading a full account of the murder, would you not expect a mention of whether Lee St. Pierre and Diane St. Pierre were related and familiar with each other, were distant cousins and unacquainted, or unrelated? In other words, wouldn't one want to know whether there was a connection between Lee Smith and Chuck Harrison via Diane Smith Harrison?

Okay, I actually still haven't given you the real names. Here are the facts:

John F. Kennedy was murdered.

Lee Harvey Oswald was blamed by the authorities for the murder, although many people doubt that he did it, or don't believe he could have pulled it off all by himself. Oswald himself denied it and said he was set up. What is beyond dispute is that Lee Harvey Oswald was at least present when the murder occurred.

Years later, Charles Harrelson confessed to the assassination, but then quickly recanted. Eyewitness and photographic evidence suggests that he was probably present when the assassination (as one of the three tramps). What is beyond doubt is that Charles Harrelson was a professional hit-man.

By the way, Harrelson's wife at the time of the murder, Diane Lou, had the maiden name of Oswald.

Oswald and St. Pierre are equally uncommon names, so one would expect some notice, considering how much coverage the JFK assassination gets, of either the coincidence of the name Oswald or an explanation of the relation between Diane Lou and Lee Harvey.

But yesterday, when I found out about Diane Lou Oswald, I googled and googled about whether she and Lee Harvey were related and came up with nothing. This might be discussed in JFK message boards, but I came up with no public results.

Yet surely some investigator must have looked at this and wrote something about it, available on-line. I just can't find it. Who is Diane Lou Oswald Harrelson? I'm not a JFK buff, but I'm fascinated by this angle.

By the way Charles and Diane Harrelson were the parents of the actor Woody Harrelson; they divorced in 1964. Charles died two months ago in federal prison - the same week as admitted JFK conspirator E. Howard Hunt; he was convicted of the 1978 murder of a federal judge. I found out about his wife's maiden name through Woody's Wikipedia page.

  1. I just ran across that, too. Oddly enough, Woody Harrelson starred in Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers a few years after JFK was released. Very strange.

Googling shows that someone's searching for Diane Lou Oswald's ancestry on a couple of different genealogy forums.

  3. It seems like there's been more conversation and searches about this since this was originally published, but have no evidence one way or another whether Diane Lou was any relation, or had any connection, to Lee Harvey.

  4. How many Oswald's could there have been living in Texas between the 1940's and 1960's? Not many I'm guessing. Fascinating.

I read the same info and thought the same also. I first searched were Lee Oswald and Charles Harrelson friends. Then I seen Diane Lou Oswald and became super curious. I found nothing in search.
