New Jersey Court Advances Same-Sex Couple Rights

That's according to ABC News tonight. What annoys me isn't the idea that same-sex couples are "entitled to the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples," it is the very idea that "couples," gay or straight, have any rights at all.

No person has the "right" to their spouse's employment or retirement benefits. The agitation for gay marriage is all about the loot: "Hey, straight people get these unearned benefits, so we should, too!"

I would have hoped that real gay rights activism would focus instead on ending state licensing and recognition of marriage. Whether people enter into gay, straight, or polygamous relationships, or whether they have church-blessed or contractual marriages, shouldn't be anybody else's business. Especially the State's.
