I'm beginning to think that all of life's mysteries, and all scientific, philosophical, ethical, and spiritual questions can be boiled down to three:
1. What is energy?
2. What is consciousness?
3. What is money?
And I suspect that the more we learn about any of them, the more we learn about all of them.
Speaking of life's mysteries, here's a really cool site with brief video presentations arguing that the planet is literally growing. It's done by Neal Adams, a comic book artist legend and admitted scientific amateur. I'm not suggesting this is the truth, but it's interesting and fun, and can be found here.

In many ways, those may be the same question. Or maybe less mystically, each of those things you ask about forms a parallel super-structure, all of which interact with each other.
