Series Tied 1-1

All the world who cares knows that the umpire screwed up last night and the White Sox were lucky. Then again, because the game would have gone to extra innings, the Sox had at least a 50-50 chance of winning anyway.

Fortunately for the Angels, they still took one out of two from the White Sox on the road. The series is now a best of five, with the Angels enjoying the home field advantage. Over a seven game series, if a game has to be lost due to an umpiring error, a game two on the road after having taken game one is about the least worst circumstance for it.

I suppose incidences like last night's are the reason we have seven-game series in baseball, as opposed to, say, a one-game play-off.

  1. Also, one expects that umpiring errors will even out over a long series.
