It Must Be the Church Water

Time for some good ol' Bushwhacking by Christian libertarian Doug Newman.

Doug says of the double standards many Christians adopt when defending Bush: "I don't get it. I just don't get it."

I suppose it's a hatred of "liberals" that is greater than a love for peace, liberty, or principle.

This one causes me to bang my head against the wall.

I never understood how people who followed "The Prince of Peace" could support aggressive, pre-emptive warfare.

Now if the Mongol hoarde were streaming across the border, ok.. but bombing 100,000 people who never threatened us into oblivion.. I just don't get it.

Does it have something to do with an anti-Muslim bias (or hatred) that's so strong that it eclipses their devotion to the core message of Christianity?.

Probably not, because they've also abandoned Palestinian Christians who were worshipping Jesus when their (US Evangelicals) ancestors were worshipping rocks.

It's political and, more importantly, theological. A bizarre belief that America is the righteous Promised Land. The new Zion, etc. And George Bush is the president appointed by God to lead us through these difficult times.

    Be afraid, be very afraid...

  2. Steve nails it and earns a hearty ditto from me.

Interestingly enough... Benny Hinn, a prominent TBN televangelist/Snake Oil salesman is Palestinian. According to him, his mother was a Palestinian Christian and his father a Palestinian Muslim. Which of course gives him a unique perspective for an American televangelist. Yet, he seems to avoid expressing his personal views on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict like the plague. Might we be able to read into that avoidance a certain level of disagreement with his TBN peers? Might he avoid it in order to pander to his followers who surely might give him less $$$ if he were to criticize a pillar of rightwing faith?
